Project Overview
The Mobile RV Program was built around a simple but important challenge: traditional health care communications did not always reach people in the places where they lived, worked and gathered. Health Net needed a scalable community engagement platform that could bring health information and wellness resources directly into neighborhoods while creating opportunities for meaningful, one-on-one conversations.
Strategy
The opportunity was to create a scalable community engagement program that could bring health information and basic wellness resources directly into neighborhoods across California. As project manager, I led the development of the Mobile RV Program from the ground up, helping transform the concept into a statewide grassroots outreach platform designed to meet communities where they were.
As project manager, I led the rebranding and interior redesign of two RVs, creating welcoming, functional mobile spaces where community members could receive simple health screenings, access health education and have one-on-one conversations about Medi-Cal, Covered California and other health and dental care options. I also developed the activation approach, coordinating deployments at cultural celebrations, community festivals, health fairs, 5Ks and other high-impact events while working with internal teams and community partners to support local needs.
Results
The program established a visible, consistent presence across California and created a more accessible way for communities to connect with health information and wellness resources.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mobile RV Program became Health Net's second-highest funded program supporting vaccine rollout and helped administer more than 20,000 vaccinations, expanding access in underserved communities. The program also strengthened key relationships with elected officials, local health departments and community-based organizations throughout the state.
The Mobile RV Program demonstrated the value of sustained grassroots engagement and trusted partnerships in connecting health organizations with the communities they serve.
